As you can see in the photo below, this patient had Botox to the forehead and her forehead wrinkles were “erased” within days.
How Botox works
Botox requires a small syringe and an even smaller needle. As compared to fillers, Botox is used to relax muscles in the face that cause wrinkles. Fillers fill in lines in the face that are a result of collagen loss, not overactive muscles. After injection, wrinkles start to relax in one to three days, hit their maximum effect at 7 days and last three to six months. Unfortunately it’s hard to predict who will be on the three-month or six-month end of that spectrum.
I’m thrilled this patient took selfies of her results. Typically, we treat a patient and since the results are evident only days after they leave (not immediately), we don’t see them back to take photos. They only come back months later when the Botox has worn off. So we were very happy this patient took excellent photos that demonstrated her wrinkles before and after. And of course, happy that she agreed to let us use her photos!
Contrary to popular belief, Botox isn’t only for the rich. While it isn’t cheap, it may not be as expensive as you think. Some doctors charge by the region – forehead, in between eyebrows, crow’s feet – regardless of the number of units injected. Some doctors charge based on the number of units injected. There’s no rhyme or reason why doctors charge differently but neither method of charging is necessarily more expensive than the other.
