Non-surgical is the buzzword these days within the realm of cosmetic surgery. And treatment of the double chin is no different! There are two new options for treatment of neck fat: CoolSculpting with the CoolMini applicator and Kybella.
Let’s start with Kybella. Kybella is composed of a chemical that destroys fat cells. This injectible is brought to you by the same people that brought you BOTOX® Cosmetic. The chemical is injected up to 50 times directly into the fat of the neck during one treatment. According to the company, the treatment may need to be repeated up to 6 times. Each treatment costs about $1300-$1800.
That’s right, if you do the math that means, approximately 300 injections over the course of 6 treatments over the course of 6 months. And by the most conservative measures, it will cost $7800. After speaking with doctors who’ve had the treatment themselves, there is a fullness to the neck that takes about 2 weeks to resolve after treatment. Here are some results below:
I don’t mean to sound pessimistic about the treatment but even if it works, that number of injections and the cost seems more painful than one small 3mm incision used for standard liposuction that can be done under local anesthesia. But I understand, not everyone wants surgery. So here’s the other option: CoolSculpting – non-surgical fat reduction.
CoolSculpting is already used extensively around the world to non-surgically reduce fat by freezing and killing unwanted fat. It reduces the fat layer by 25% and can achieve its goal after just one treatment. The CoolMini is the name of the applicator (shown at top) used in CoolSculpting of the double chin. Treatment can be done in a single treatment but may require a second treatment. See results below. Compared to Kybella, the cost of CoolSculpting of the double chin with the CoolMini is about $1000 per treatment.
